Today was a beautiful, crisp, windy day. When I looked outside there was a big morning moon hanging so delicately in the sky. It made me think of my favorite Beatles' song, "Julia". I realized I didn't have the song in my computer though, and crazy enough, The White Album isn't available to purchase on itunes! (There's something I sort of like about that though)
So I decided to cover it. It only took me 30 minutes, and it was simply to satisfy the "fix" I needed to hear, sing, and play this song. You can hear a lot of lip smacking, and a lot of unfinished 'ideas' of harmonies....
I've put the song to a bunch of tour videos* I've been collecting over the past 3 years. I didn't try to synch anything up. These are just randomly chosen clips** that I really like. (sigh...) I've come to terms with the fact that I am just not a perfectionist, and I never will be. So take it as you will. I hope you enjoy it.
love,
p. ahn

*some of these clips were taken by my friend Wendy Wang.
** can you guess where some of them are from in the world?
wow!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful song :) If you're not a perfectionist one i don't know what it is haha
ReplyDeletecheers,
Antonio Mello
Hey it's my fav too, but if you need the mp3, you might want to check it out here: http://uploading.com/files/get/FKHDW3FR/
ReplyDeleteThe Beatles - Julia.
It is just beautiful! you are seriously talented!
ReplyDeleteI only recognize the Jersey shore, crossing the Bay Bridge to San Fran, Stonehenge, autumn in Korea, and maybe Seattle?
ReplyDeleteI love it. It's an amazing song and it's absolutely wonderful to hear you sing it. And I like the fact that it isn't 'perfect-perfect'. At least you give a soul to the music. That's why I usually love live-performances better than recordings on cd. Never lose that soul ;-)
ReplyDeleteI hope to see/hear you again some day.
With love from Belgium <3
Sigh...simply sigh :)
ReplyDeleteYou're just scratching the surface love.
Wow, love the cover of the song. Thanks for sharing it.
ReplyDeleteBrighton, Stonehenge, London Tube, UK in general?? :))
ReplyDeleteBeautiful song. Love your version.
was this a GarageBand creation? The video is a nice companion. It makes me happy that some songs can't be click/dragged into my possession, and I must search for them...
ReplyDeleteWouw AMAZING cover of a beautifull song, you made it even more beautifull!!
ReplyDeletex
How do you do that with your voice? Make it preternaturally chilling. You're amazing :D
ReplyDeletethis made me tear up! SO beautiful, thank you...
ReplyDeleteWow! My parents actually named me after this Beatles song so I grew up listening to it on birthdays etc., but I prefer your version! It's breathtakingly beautiful and a breath of fresh air. Kudos! The video is absolutely lovely, too.
ReplyDeletePS I'm not sure if it's still the case, but for a long time there were no Beatles songs at all on the iTunes Store because of some legal upset revolving around their old record label Apple Records, and Apple Computer's recent foray into music.
wow that was so beautiful. thanks for posting this!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful!
ReplyDeletethat was an absolutely beautiful cover of "Julia"! you're voice is so soothing. i love the Beatles too :) the video was cool too. i noticed the stonehenge but all the other places, i'm not sure about. maybe Korea since you were there recently. ?? hhaha

Hi, I like how you sang that song. I am a fan so I can't wait till your next album comes out and hopefully I will see you =) Take cares
ReplyDeletewhen i was listening to this and watching the video, some of the clips really seemed to fit.. and perhaps unintentionally made it seem like you were the "julia" the song was about since sometimes the camera was focused on you when you were singing that part of the song. hehe, i dunno!

Hello, this is magical. I saw you at a music festival in Austin around August of 2008 I think. It was very very hot outside but I remember you boob song and I bought your cd later after we heard lullaby. I've never seen your blog before but it's funny that I landed on this post at random because my name is Julia and I love that song by the Beatles. I walked down the isle to your Dream song. Your music is beautiful. Thank you!
