Tonight I Covered "Julia"

Today was a beautiful, crisp, windy day. When I looked outside there was a big morning moon hanging so delicately in the sky. It made me think of my favorite Beatles' song, "Julia". I realized I didn't have the song in my computer though, and crazy enough, The White Album isn't available to purchase on itunes! (There's something I sort of like about that though)

So I decided to cover it. It only took me 30 minutes, and it was simply to satisfy the "fix" I needed to hear, sing, and play this song. You can hear a lot of lip smacking, and a lot of unfinished 'ideas' of harmonies....

I've put the song to a bunch of tour videos* I've been collecting over the past 3 years. I didn't try to synch anything up. These are just randomly chosen clips** that I really like. (sigh...) I've come to terms with the fact that I am just not a perfectionist, and I never will be. So take it as you will. I hope you enjoy it.

love,

Terms Of Endearment

Well, I meant to take some photos of the things I bought, with some nice daylight in the background....but I woke up at 6pm today. Which roughly calculates to 17 hours of sleep? And no daylight, unfortunately.

Tomorrow I have a songwriting session, so somehow I have to wake my ass up at a reasonable hour! I just downed a cup of coffee to get rid of my mushy-brain feeling. I need to clean this place up!

I don't know why, but I feel like watching "Terms Of Endearment," which basically means I want to have a cry fest tonight. I'm hoping that will make me get tired and fall asleep?

Back in L.A.!

It was an eaaaaasy flight back. Had an empty seat between me and the other guy. That's always a perk! And he was nice and not creepy. Always another really good perk!! I'm back and I miss Korea already. Although, L.A. gave me another beautiful welcome home. L.A. always looks different to me when I come home from somewhere completely different. I ordered some Chinese food, and in the meantime, been slowly unpacking. Or unwrapping, I should say. I bought so many cute things (yes, that's right. There I go with all the cute things again!).

By the way, here's a photo of me with my Korean chic eyeglasses.

They look a little crooked, don't they? Oh well....being a nerd is always sort of "in", right?

Then here I am displaying a few of my new things: apron, hen oven mit/really hot ramen lid handle mit, and a cloth lunch bag--YES!

Really bad graffiti I did in Seoul. Not really bad because tagging is naughty, but really bad because it looks like an right-handed 8 yr. old trying something new with their left hand.

Korean snowmen are only made with a head, and a torso/legs. So cute!!!*

Snowing in Ansan.

Korea, pogoshipoyo.

* I can't help it that I'm just drawn to cute things. Anything miniature, hand-made, and of course all-around adorable--i love you!

No Pictures...

No additional pictures, but I'm still here in Korea. I realized that I forgot half of my laptop charger. The important half. The half that plugs into the wall. So, I haven't been able to upload any new photos, or video footage. :(

I've been eating a ton of spicy food. I don't know if that will be good for me in the end, but it's so yum I don't know what else to do! It can be lonely at times, because I don't know the language. Korean lessons, korean shmessons. I really haven't learned enough to feel confident enough yet.

I've been shopping a ton! Before I left for Korea, I bought these new frames for my glasses that are like, Old-man glasses. They look like this:

Ok....that didn't work. I tried to upload an image from the web. Hmm..... Anyway, they're bark colored, square, thick-framed glasses. I was really self-conscious wearing them though, until I came here! All the girls wear them!!! Nobody over here does a double-take, or tries to stifle a laugh when they see me with them on. Yay! :)

My mom's getting some kind of perm that simply gives her hair body. They have this thing over here called "digital perm". What??! There are no curlers involved. A machine curls your hair or something, but it does it perfectly, to whatever amount of wave you want. Pre-tty cooool.

Sorry for a blog filled with only words. I like blogs with pictures. I like photos....which reminds me, I bought a new camera yesterday! I'll um...take a picture of it, and then post it when I get back to the U.S.

Lots of love,

Breakfast in Korea

I got in to snowy Korea last night. Around midnight, when I thought everyone was getting ready for bed, my Uncles brought out soju and crab, oranges, and a spicy seafood casserole--YUM! I LOVE late night eating.

Today we're preparing TONS of food for the big Chinese New Year celebration tomorrow. I learned how to make amazing fresh kimchee. (see below)*

For breakfast we had rice, fish, egg, water kimchee, seafood radish soup, my grandmother's homemade acorn jelly, and to top it off--a gigantic pot of MUSSELS!!! Wha-what??!

*I did not actually make the amazing kimchee that's pictured. I watched and then ate it.
P.S. As a pescatarion living in California, I'm used to seeing magazines in the supermarket checkout line that cater to vegetarians and vegans. This is my first time crossing paths with:

Off to Korea

I'm off to Korea tomorrow to visit the family. Wish me luck on my Korean speaking skills! I'm sure I won't blow minds over there, but I'm also sure I'll learn a lot while I'm there.

I'll post lots of pics along the way....

Thanks for everyone who showed up at last night's show where I was the "Special Guest". :) It really helped me a lot! I have a way better idea of which songs are keepers....

Ok, must go to sleep.

gnite,

Vanessa Bruno

I love these videos that Vanessa Bruno has been making for her clothing line with Lou Doillon. Lou is one of the coolest looking people in my opinion. And there's even a guest appearance by Gonzalez! I love him.

Sick with the Strep

I haven't posted any blogs lately. Been sick in bed with the Strep! Ouch! Thought I should say Hello though.

Hi!

Thank you for all your awesome comments! That really cheered me up today. :) In response to most of them:

1. I am currently writing for my second album, and soon will start recording it--yay! And Ahhh! at the same time.

2. Thanks for the all the encouragement learning Korean! It's nice to know I'm not the only one who gets my "wires crossed" with languages. And the coffee/nosebleed comment made me laugh out loud!

3. Yes, I need to do more video blogs! I always think about doing them, but then I'm like, "it'll be so boring for the viewer!" I'll try to think of something interesting to video blog about. I think Korea is definitely a good start! Although, I have a lot of video footage from Japan that I haven't even looked at yet. BAD!

4. Tom C., can I share this too? For all Andrew Bird lovers, this is so great. And St. Vincent is captivating. Thanks!*

Other than that, here are some funny pictures from the week prior to my strep throat:

I went to Medieval Times for the first time. I didn't realize it's sort of a horse show. My fiance is deathly allergic. In fact, there was a sign at the entrance that said, "If you have bad asthma, enter at your own risk." We took the risk. He hung outside by the bar for 3/4 of the show drinking gin & tonics. Needless to say, he got drunk and bought a $150 goblet because he thought he just had to have it. :)

These are my poker winnings!!! I suck at poker, but lady luck was on my side this night! Totally worth blogging about!

The EMI Grammy party had all these rad XBox games set up. This one felt like you were really in a car--see that intense stare I have going on? Yea, sometimes my eyes dry out because I forget to blink.

Anywhoo....now I have strep throat, and this blog was like, a week's worth of blogs. Time to take more 'tussin.

xoxo
