This Too Shall Pass

OK Go - This Too Shall Pass from OK Go on Vimeo.

These guys make such fun music videos (and songs of course). Found this from one of the blogs I follow. :)

P.S. I used to play the glockenspiel in my high school marching band. Those things are HEAVY!!!

Korean Lessons

Hopefully I'll be wearing one of these traditional Korean Hanboks when I'm in S. Korea next month. I'm meeting up with my mom and family to celebrate the Chinese New Year (but mostly to see my family).

So in the meantime, I'm basically doing some Korean-language cramming. I've been practicing some useful phrases with my mom over the phone--but it's really hard!!! The pronunciation has to be exact, or else it sounds like you're saying something else, something horrible.

For instance, I tried to say, "This tastes so delicious!" But my mom said it sounded like I said, "I do not like the way this tastes." And then I tried to say, "I'm really happy!" But my mom said it sounded like I said, "I want to die,". (Like, die meaning, I want to kill myself. Not, I'm dying from laughing too much!)

Also, I've been learning Japanese for a while too. At the Korean lesson tonight, I was conversing with one of the teachers, and everytime I wanted to say "yes", I kept almost spitting out the Japanese word, which is "hai". But I kept stopping myself right at the last second, so it basically sounded like I was a panting dog, "H--, h--, h--" was my response. My mom did tell me that I sounded like a Japanese person trying to speak Korean.

Oy gevalt!

A Hollywood Hike

Yesterday was the first day of beautiful sunshine in a week. My friend Melissa and I, and her new pup went for a walk in Griffith Park, and had some stunning views.

There are SO many hiking trails in Los Angeles. I'm gonna start taking advantage of them. The one we did yesterday was the Mt. Hollywood trail that went up to the Observatory.

We had a clear view to the ocean. :)

rain rain rain

it's been a week of rain--i'm not complaining. I love it....excuses to stay inside all day. The best is when the sun comes out and all the rain droplets look like a fine mist of gold and happiness. The most jaw-dropping was the hail last night. Perfect tiny balls of ice. The worst is getting in to my car under the leaky car port, where tiny waterfalls of rain water pour on to me just as I'm jumping in.

This past weekend was filled with music, parties, food, and Tekkan. We had some friends in town, and after a night out, or a day's worth of activities, we always ended the night with atleast 75 battles of Tekkan on the PS2. I was in my element as Christie Monteiro.

Although I just found this quote when searching for this picture:

"A common criticism [of Christie's character] is that it rewards button mashing players too richly. Regardless, most expert-level players do not regard the characters as cheap."

That's totally what I am!!! I'm a button masher, and so I was really kicking ass with her!

Anyway, on to other dorkinesses....since our friends left and took their PS2 with them (thank god!) I've been canceling all my plans and sitting in the house all day GOING CRAZY!

All this rain is starting to make me sleepy. I can barely keep my eyeballs open. I hear the rain is stopping tomorrow for a little. I'll save saturday for work, and take today off. :)

p.s. I love that people reference my "Rain" song in weather like this. It's such an honor!

pps. I accidentally erased 2 or 3 comments the other day again! I hate that, and I don't know where to find them to save them! But I did read them....and thank you!

these are a few of my favorite things...

A small, handmade, hanging planter for wildflower discoveries. Handmade by the shopkeeper's sister at Jizo, my new favorite shop in Kyoto.
My new adorable corkboard! Seriously, this corkboard is probably only 5"x6". Kawaii! Another Jizo creation.
The tiniest vases I've ever seen. Just having these inspires me to go on walks and pick new tiny flowers off of other people's property. Once again, Jizo.
My new ridiculously small soy sauce holder. Hard to tell, but it's tiny!
More Jizo hanging vases. These make me want to install a kiln and take up pottery.
Some Japanese condiment holders. I'll put some yuzu kosho and togarashi in these bad boys.
The three on top were handmade. The 2 white saucers held sake from the gods, which we drank happily on our visit to a shrine for the New Year.

and we're back...

What a trip.... so many photos, so many videos. I'm being good and waiting to look at all the photos with Mike, who is currently conked out for the night. I, on the other hand, took a 5 hour 'nap' today after we unpacked all of our new Japanese goodies. Jet lag always gets me the hardest when I travel West for some reason.

By the way, my New Year's resolutions:
1. Be in the moment
2. Love more
3. Trust more
4. Be good to myself (we all deserve to be joyful)
5. Practice meditation
6. Don't check my emails first thing every morning.

Things on my Christmas List that I actually got this year!:
1. A pajama onesie (from Koream Magazine)
2. New flower vases (pics to be posted soon!)

Anyway, now it's time for some bagels and lox, warm herbal tea, a book, a sleeping pill, and bed.
